benevolently, strategically, and rotationally ranged laying hens and roosters

The integration of a chicken flock is essential to the health and sustainability of our little ecosystem. We couldn’t, and wouldn’t, do it without them. They recycle nutrients- converting Ohio grains, organic kitchen scraps, wild forage & insects into rich waste for sustainable soil microbiology.

Farm-bred, pasture raised laying hens with free range and variably diverse wild diets resulting is noticeably exceptional eggs with a boost of omega 3 fatty acids, beta-carotene, vitamins, and flavor.

We’ve now raised chickens for eight years, a small flock of laying hens and a rooster being our first experience with actual backyard agriculture. Though we’ve expanded our operation to include over 100 birds, we maintain our ethic to keep them in naturally ideal conditions, from the bird’s eye view.

Our birds are given plentiful space to spread their wings, a natural environment throughout which to chase and forage food, and more than adequate companionship. We like to think that we owe that to our flocks in exchange for the joy and fertility that they bring to the farm and of course, for their special egg offerings.

an ever-reforming farmstead

Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, with greater freedom comes greater risk for our laying hens. We have found it difficult as a result to maintain predictable egg production given the resulting exposure to weather, disease, and predation.

Because of our flock’s variability, along with the ongoing pressures of feed costs, we have limited our egg offerings for 2026. Eggs will be offered as weekly, à la carte purchases (not as an add-on share). First come, first served.
